We’re a Part of the APPG on ESG!

We are delighted to announce our recent membership in the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues. As experts in the external wall insulation and render industry, this new alliance is a significant step forward in reinforcing our commitment to sustainable building practices and energy efficiency.

What is the APPG on ESG?

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on ESG is a cross-party group of MPs and peers, focusing on deepening the understanding of ESG principles and values among British businesses. The purpose of the APPG is to emphasise the importance of ESG on company boards, support the development and implementation of effective reporting frameworks, and emphasise the symbiotic relationship between ESG principles and energy security.

One of the key distinctions made by the APPG on ESG is between ESG principles and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), highlighting that ESG is a set of principles integrated into business decisions, ensuring corporate goals are supported by a holistic consideration of environmental, social, and governance issues.

Alexander Stafford MP chairs the group with officers from different political parties. The APPG holds regular meetings, attended by parliamentarians, ESG experts, and various industry figures. As of January 2024, this will include Nick Miles, who will represent EWI Pro on an advisory basis. Our integral position at the heart of the external wall insulation and render market will supply the group with invaluable knowledge.

Our unique contribution

We bring to the table a specialised understanding of energy efficiency in buildings and sustainable construction practices. Our goal is to advocate for policies that support the wider adoption of energy-efficient building techniques, which are crucial in the fight against climate change.

Our engagement with the APPG on ESG is more than just a membership; it’s an opportunity to collaborate with policymakers, industry leaders, and sustainability advocates. We are excited to contribute our knowledge and experience to help shape a more sustainable future in building and construction.

Pioneering energy efficiency

Our contribution to the APPG on ESG centres on advocating for the wider adoption of advanced external wall insulation and rendering solutions in both residential and commercial buildings. This approach is pivotal in reducing energy consumption, thereby cutting down on carbon emissions and combating climate change. By insulating buildings more effectively, we can significantly decrease the need for heating and cooling, leading to a substantial reduction in energy usage.

Promoting sustainable materials

Sustainability in the building industry isn’t just about energy efficiency; it’s also about the materials used. We are passionate about promoting the use of eco-friendly and recyclable materials in external wall insulation and render. Our involvement in the APPG on ESG gives us a platform to advocate for policies that encourage the use of sustainable materials. These materials not only have a lower environmental impact during production but also contribute to the overall energy efficiency of buildings.

Influencing policy and practice

We aim to influence both policy and practical applications in the construction industry. By sharing our knowledge and experience with policymakers and industry stakeholders, we can help shape legislation that supports sustainable building practices. This includes advocating for building regulations that prioritize energy efficiency and the use of environmentally friendly materials. We also aim to raise awareness among construction professionals about the benefits of sustainable insulation and rendering techniques, encouraging a shift in industry standards.

Collaborating for a sustainable future

Collaboration is key to achieving a greener future in construction. By working alongside government bodies, industry leaders, and environmental groups, we can help to drive the adoption of more sustainable building practices. Our role in the APPG on ESG is not just about voicing our opinions; it’s about listening, learning, and working together to find the best solutions for a sustainable construction industry.

From the APPG on ESG: ‘The APPG is delighted to announce that EWI Pro is joining our Advisory Board. EWI Pro is one of the industry leaders in render and external wall insulation solutions as well as an advocate for developing green skills in the economy. We very much look forward to having Nick Miles, Director of Commerce & Product Innovation, share his unique expertise and insight at future roundtable discussions.’

A word from Nick Miles: ‘Absolutely delighted to be representing EWI Pro in all future ESG APPG roundtable discussions. I hope to canvass additional views from our industry to help shape some of the discussions in the future as well contributing to wider debates about the environment & sustainability, which is due to shape our economy for years and decades to come.’
